Practice Information
We will meet daily as scheduled at Iron Horse Golf Course and alternate days on the course and the range. Monday & Wednesday are our days on the golf course. Tuesday & Thursday are driving range days for us.
Please pick your golfer up on the east side of the building by the teacher's parking lot each day. Entrance #8. There is a drop-off and pick-up area located between the central and south wings of the building that works well. Once at the course, golfers can change clothes in the small locker rooms at Iron Horse if needed.
Golfers will need to arrive at the golf course as soon as possible after I release them from class. Each day I will take attendance, make announcements as needed, and release the golfers to catch their rides or drive to the course. Golfers are welcome to bring their clubs to my room in the mornings to store during the day if that helps.
I understand that there are times when golfers will not have transportation to the course for various reasons. When this happens golfers will be sent to the library to work on homework, read, or work on the computers until school is dismissed. In this case, golfers must stay in the library until the end of the school day or until a parent checks the student out through the office check-out procedures. Please remember the States 90% attendance rule when considering checking out your golfer before the end of the school day.
We will meet by the putting green on course days. Our first tee time usually starts around 4:00 pm. Groups will be sent off in eight-minute increments. If a golfer has not arrived for our tee times, they will have to catch up with one of the groups to begin play. Golfers can text me when they arrive, and I will pick them up at the clubhouse as soon as I can to place them in a group.
On range days golfers will be placed in groups and assigned a starting location. Coaches oversee getting buckets for range balls when needed. Timber Creek will be allocated a portion of the range in which to practice, usually two to three hitting bays. Golfers will need to take turns rotating in and out to get in their range work. On the range, golfers will practice multiple types of shots. Below is a breakdown of the percentage of time that should be spent practicing the various golf shots based on a round of 90.
Tee Shots – 15%, Approach Shots (150 yards & in) – 24%, Chipping – 20%, Putting – 40%
Practices will conclude no more than two hours after we first tee off on course days or arrive at the golf course for range days. Coaches will not be at the course working with golfers past that time. You are welcome to pick up your golfer at any time. I just ask that each golfer let one of the coaches know that they are leaving before they take off. Golfers are also welcome to stay longer than our practice time if they wish. Any additional range balls will have to be purchased by the golfer and completing additional holes will have to be approved by Iron Horse Golf Course.
